Best Buy Scholarship Program

Best Buy's scholarship program has awarded nearly $13 million since 1999 to more than 10,000 students to help them prepare for a bright future.

Best Buy Children's Foundation is focused on opportunities to help teens thrive through @15. We recognize how important teens are to our community, to our society, to our world. We're eager to listen to them, support them, help provide opportunities for them, when too few others are. We believe in teens. We know they have special power to do great things. Our mission is to recognize and understand that power. Not direct it, but fuel it.

The Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program is part of the fuel for the @15 mission. This year the program will award scholarships to students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. or Puerto Rico who plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study upon high school graduation.

A total of 1,000 students will each receive a $1,500 scholarship. If you're a 9-12 grade student who plans to attend post-secondary education, have solid grades and are involved in community service or work experience, you'll want to check out this opportunity!

Deadline:
February 15, 2009
Award Amount:

ENTRY DEADLINE APPROACHING: SAMMY Awards Scholarship Offers $7,500 for College

Calling all high school seniors -- there are only a few weeks left to apply for the 2009 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Awards and potentially take home a $7,500 scholarship for college.

This unique award, sponsored by the National Milk Mustache "got milk?(R)" Campaign in partnership with USA TODAY, educates teens on the importance of making smart choices -- like drinking lowfat milk, eating right and staying active. Twenty-five teens who excel in academics, athletics, community service and leadership will earn the $7,500 scholarship, attend an awards ceremony with celebrity guests at The Milk House at ESPN's Wide World of Sports and appear in their own Milk Mustache ad in USA TODAY.

It's as easy as drinking a glass of milk to apply:
-- Write a 75 word essay that includes how milk is important in your everyday life
-- Complete the online application at http://sammy.bodybymilk.com by March 6, 2009
Finalists will be named in June 2009. For complete contest rules and applications, log onto http://sammy.bodybymilk.com.

Bezos Scholars Program at the Aspen Institute Seeks Entries

The Bezos Scholars Program at the Aspen Institute, a collaboration between the Bezos Family Foundation and the Aspen Institute, is designed to bring together twelve of the United States' top high school juniors to engage in seminars and informal meetings with the international leaders, thinkers, and creative artists who participate in the annual Aspen Ideas Festival (June 30 - July 6, 2009).

The program provides the participating juniors with seven-day, all-expense-paid scholarships to attend the festival. An educator from each student's school also will be awarded a full scholarship, thereby offering a unique leadership development opportunity for students and educators. At the Aspen Ideas Festival, the scholars have opportunities to speak one-on-one with world leaders, global thinkers, and acclaimed entertainers. Past scholars have met with inventor Dean Kamen, Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Her Majesty Queen Noor, Secretary of State Colin Powell, and President Bill Clinton, among others. Following their time in Aspen, the Student Scholar/Educator Scholar teams will return home and apply for $1,000 School Award Grants to use in creating local Ideas Festivals in their schools.

To be eligible, the student's school must be a public high school (including charter and magnet schools) in which at least 25 percent of students are eligible for free/reduced lunches and which offers Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes.

Applicants must be a high school junior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, taking Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes, and a legal U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. They must also demonstrate leadership in school and their community, and have exceptional PSAT/SAT/or ACT scores.
